TikTok Insights: available statistics

TikTok is especially "video-driven". That's why, in addition to classic interactions, KNOWYOURCHAT gives you metrics that show whether your video actually holds attention.

The big advantage: you can analyze TikTok posts using the same Insights logic as other platforms, but with the additional video signals that make TikTok particularly meaningful.

If you're brand new to Insights, start with the Introduction to KNOWYOURCHAT Insights.

Post details

When you click a TikTok post, the details typically include:

If you want a better understanding of the tabs (overview vs. interaction), continue with Post details: Overview vs. interaction.

  • Overview: key metrics and a summary
  • Viewers: demographics and top countries
  • Interaction: engagement and interaction breakdown

Typical metrics (per post)

In the overview – depending on data availability – you'll often see:

  • Views
  • Reach
  • Likes
  • Comments
  • Shares
  • Saves
  • New followers (if provided by TikTok)
  • Total play time
  • Watch time
  • Engagement rate

Audience retention: why it matters

TikTok can show you how viewers behave over the length of the video.

Typical data includes:

  • a curve for audience retention (where do people drop off?)
  • metrics like watch time
  • possibly "watched in full" (if available)

How to use this in practice:

  • If many people drop off in the first few seconds, the hook is too weak.
  • If the drop happens later, a faster pace or a clearer ending is often worth trying.

Viewers (demographics)

Depending on the post and data availability, TikTok can provide:

  • Gender
  • Age
  • Top countries

This helps you tailor content and topics more closely to your actual audience.

Best practices

For clean comparisons, always start with these in Insights:

  • Platform filter in Insights
  • Select a date range
  • Don't judge TikTok by likes alone. Look at watch time and audience retention first.
  • Use saves as an indicator of usefulness (tutorials, tips, how-tos).
  • Always compare TikTok posts within the same format and time range (e.g. the last 30 or 90 days).

Recommendation: Each week, open 3 TikTok posts with high audience retention and 3 with low retention. Compare the first 2 seconds (hook), text overlay, and pace – and test 1 change the following week.

ℹ️ Note: Not every metric is available for every post. Some values may update with a delay.
