Post Details: Overview vs. Interaction

Post details: Overview vs. interaction

In Insights, the post list initially shows you only the key metrics. If you want to understand more precisely what's behind the numbers, open the post details. There you switch between Overview and Interaction.

If you're brand new to Insights, start with the Introduction to KNOWYOURCHAT Insights.

The difference is simple:

  • Overview answers: "How did the post perform?"
  • Interaction answers: "What specific reactions were there — and what do comments/engagement say about the post?"

1) Opening the post details

  1. Open Insights. If you want to narrow down first, use for example:
  2. Switch to the Posts section on the left.
  3. Click the post you want in the table.

2) "Overview" tab: KPIs, metrics & engagement rate

The Overview tab shows you the performance in compact form.

Typical cards/blocks include:

  • Metrics (e.g. views, likes, comments, shares, reach, saves — depending on the platform)
  • Engagement rate (as its own card)

You use the overview mainly to quickly assess:

  • How widely was the post distributed (e.g. views/impressions)?
  • How much interaction was there overall (likes, comments, shares, saves)?
  • How "efficient" was the post relative to its distribution (engagement rate)?

If you want to know which statistics are available per platform, these detail pages help:

3) "Interaction" tab: comments & reactions

The Interaction tab is less about "how many" and more about "what kind of reaction?"

Typical (as in the screenshot):

  • top comments (incl. reply thread, where available)
  • quick signals on whether comments are mostly agreement, questions, discussion, or criticism

This tab is especially helpful when you:

  • want to understand why a post got a lot of response
  • want to iterate on the hook/message (which points were picked up?)
  • derive new content ideas from comments

4) Engagement rate briefly explained

The engagement rate is a condensed metric that shows you how strongly a post performs relative to its distribution.

Important:

  • It's best to compare the engagement rate within the same platform.
  • Compare within the same format (e.g. Reel with Reel).

If you're wondering why platforms count metrics differently, also see Platform limitations.

5) What do "shared" and "saved" mean?

  • Shared is a strong signal that content is so good that people pass it on.
  • Saved is especially valuable for content with utility (how-tos, checklists, tips) because users want to come back to it later.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't I see some info (e.g. viewers/demographics)?

Not every platform provides this data. Which values appear depends on the platform and post type.

Why are values missing for some posts?

Some metrics are updated with a delay or are limited per post type.

If data is missing entirely, Why is data missing in Insights? often helps.

Best practice: Use the overview first to find candidates. Then open 3–5 posts and use the interaction tab to spot patterns in the comments/reactions.

If you want to derive new posts directly from this, use Posting.
