Facebook Insights: available statistics

In KNOWYOURCHAT, Facebook mainly delivers classic performance metrics per post. That lets you quickly see which content was visible and which actually triggered reactions.

Facebook is especially useful in Insights if you publish posts regularly and want to compare cleanly which topics, formats, or posting times perform better.

If you're completely new to Insights, start with Introduction to KNOWYOURCHAT Insights.

If you want to understand Facebook's API limits in detail, also read Facebook limitations.

Typical metrics (per post)

Depending on the post type and available data, you'll typically see:

  • Views or reach (depending on how it's displayed)
  • Likes
  • Comments
  • Shares

How to interpret Facebook metrics meaningfully

  • Views/reach show whether the post was distributed.
  • Comments show whether the post sparks conversation.
  • Shares are a strong signal for content people want to pass on.

If you want to decide whether a post was "really good", don't look at views alone – look at the combination of visibility and reaction.

Why views/reach aren't identical to Instagram

Even when the terms sound the same, Facebook and Instagram don't count in exactly the same way.

Typical differences:

  • Views can be defined differently per platform (e.g. brief impression vs. minimum duration).
  • Reach is often "unique", but counting and deduplication differ.
  • Post types and placements (feed, video, Reels-like formats) aren't always weighted the same.

So the rule is: compare within Facebook – and within similar formats.

Best practices

Recommendation: Take 10 minutes per week: filter to Facebook → last 30 days → open the top 5 posts → derive 1 learning (e.g. topic, CTA, posting time) and apply it to the next week.

If you want to turn learnings directly into new posts, use Posting with KNOWYOURCHAT.

ℹ️ Note: Not every metric is available for every post. Values can vary by post type or be updated with a delay.
