Limitations on TikTok

TikTok makes many features available via its APIs, but not everything. That's why some options are not (yet) available in KNOWYOURCHAT, even though you could use them directly in TikTok.

This page summarizes the most important limitations. You'll find the complete overview in API capabilities for TikTok.

The basic principle: why are there limitations?

  • KNOWYOURCHAT uses the official TikTok APIs.
  • Features depend on your account setup, region, and the API requirements.

Limitations in publishing (Posts)

Currently, these points in particular are limited:

If you want to "produce" TikTok posts independently of the calendar date and then cleanly move them through statuses/review, Posts is the right complement.

  • Selecting recommended music from the TikTok library for photo posts: not available.
    • What this means: If music selection is needed, it may have to be done directly in TikTok.
  • Adding subtitles: not available.
    • What this means: Subtitles/captions may need to be added via TikTok or an external process.

What is still possible (for context)

Many control options are available in KNOWYOURCHAT, for example:

  • disabling comments before publishing
  • disabling Duet/Stitch
  • disclosing commercial content
  • labeling AI-generated content

If individual options are missing, it's often due to account or region requirements.

Limitations in statistics (Insights)

TikTok delivers some very helpful video metrics in KNOWYOURCHAT. You can see this in the post details via the Overview, Audience, and Interaction tabs.

If you want a general grounding in analysis, start with Insights.

Typical values in the overview (per post):

  • Views
  • Reach
  • Likes
  • Comments
  • Shares
  • Saves
  • Total play time
  • Watch time
  • Engagement rate

Audience retention:

  • a curve showing when viewers drop off
  • metrics like watch time and "watched in full" (if available)

Audience (demographics):

  • Gender
  • Age
  • Top countries

What can be limited here

  • Not every metric is available for every post. Depending on the content type and data availability, individual values may be missing.
  • Demographics and audience retention are not always complete or available for every post.
  • Delays: Some values update with a delay.

Best practices

  • Keep a short "TikTok fine-tuning" step when music/subtitles are relevant.
  • If you expect an option and it's missing: check your account type, permissions, and region.
