TikTok: Formats and Upload Requirements
Here you'll find the key specifications for TikTok plus practical recommendations so your uploads look clean and work reliably.
✅ A note on currency
TikTok changes details (e.g. length, upload limits, UI) regularly. If you want to be on the safe side, quickly check:
- Does the aspect ratio fit (TikTok is vertical: 9:16)?
- Is the resolution high enough (ideally 1080 × 1920)?
- Is the file not too large?
Then you're usually on the safe side.
In short: What matters on TikTok?
TikTok is video-first and vertical. Content looks best when it fills the screen (9:16) and important elements don't sit right at the edge.
If you want to know in general what you can upload in KNOWYOURCHAT, start here: Media uploads: Overview.
Video (standard)
Recommendation (best case):
- Format: 1080 × 1920 (9:16)
- File format: MP4, MOV, WEBM
- Frame rate: 30 fps (recommended)
- Resolution: at least 720p
Duration:
- 3 seconds to 10 minutes
Max. file size (note):
- In practice, limits vary by device.
- As a guideline (for uploads via KNOWYOURCHAT): 500 MB
- Recommendation: if possible, stay under 500 MB so the upload and processing are more stable.
Practical tips for better quality:
- Export in 1080p whenever possible.
- Use clear subjects and avoid very fine details, because TikTok compresses more heavily.
- If the video looks "muddy": re-export (MP4/H.264, moderate bitrate) and upload again.

Photo posts are ideal for step-by-steps, lists, before/after.
